To celebrate #YoungCarersAwarenessDay and #BurnsNight, Susan Mercer has written a braw poem entitled 'To A Bairn', to show her appreciation of young carers.

'TO A BAIRN'

...an alternative Burns poem

‘AW THE WEE BAIRN’ - COO’S THE NEW MAW
‘GONNA BE A HANDFAE’ – SMILES THE NEW DA
LOOKS LIKE HIS FAITHER WI MITHER’S BLUE EEN
A BONNIER WEE BAIRNIE HIZ NIVIR BEEN SEEN!

FAE BABBY TAE TODDLER IN LESS THAN A YEAR
GROWING UP FAST & HAVING NAE FEAR
WALKING & EATING & STERTIN’ TAE BABBLE
EXPLORING & TASTING & LOOKING TAE DABBLE.

AWA TAE THE SKAIL, REAL PROOD & SMERT
HAME WI THE UNIFORMS A’ COVERED IN CLERT
GAMES IN THE PLAYGROOND, LEARNING THE ROPES
MAKIN NEW PALS, WI FRESH DREAMS & BIG HOPES.

SOON IT’S TEEN TANTRUMS, HUFFS, HORMONES & FEARS
FINDING IT HARD BEING HURLED THROUGH THAE TEARS
HAVING A ‘BESTIE’, A LASS OR A LAD
WORRYING HOW YOU LOOK & SCHOOLS LATEST FAD

FAE BABEE TAE TEEN, FA’S THERE FUR THEM NOO?
FA’ DRYS UP THE TEARS & BUYS THE NEW SHOE?
FA HIZ THE COURAGE TAE SOMETIMES SAY ‘NO’?
AND BE ABLE TAE CONTAIN THEM IN THEIR TALES OF WOE.

AS A BAIRN YE DINNAE AYE KIN WHAT TAE EXPECT
BUT YIZ DO DESERVE SAFETY, LOVE & RESPECT
THE BAIRN THAT IS NURTURED, GROWS TO BE KIND,
HAPPY , CONFIDENT & SECURE WE THINK YOU WILL FIND

LOOK AROOND AT OOR BAIRNIES, THEY GIVE US SUCH JOY
WHETHER YOU’VE BEEN BLESSED WI A GIRL OR A BOY
LIFE A S A BAIRN CAN BE TOUGH TO GET THROUGH
LOOK AROOND LOONS & QUINIES – SEE  FA’S THERE FOR YOU????
