Young Adult Carers Summit 2015

Wednesday 08th July 2015

A group from Angus attended the Young Adult Carers Summit, which took place in Stirling on the 3rd and 4th July 2015.

This was the first ever Young Adult Carers Summit in Scotland.

Aged from 16 to 25, it's estimated that there are 30,000 young adult carers in Scotland.

Organised by Carers Trust Scotland, the Summit was opened by Jamie Hepburn MSP, the Scottish Government minister for sport, health improvement and mental health.

During the Summit, Carers Trust Scotland launched their 'Going Higher in Scotland' campaign. This campaign aims to highlight the fact that young adult carers are a hidden group in further & higher education (no records are currently kept by universities/colleges about young adult carers), and to encourage universities/colleges to increase awareness that young adult carers will sometimes need support when studying.
